Wendell Lee Pitts - March 17, 2023 - Material Handler

Wendell Lee Pitts, age 73, of Richmond, KY departed this life Friday, March 17th at the VA in Lexington, KY. Wendy was born May 7, 1949 in Berea, KY to Gladys Bryant Pitts and the late Joe E. Pitts, Jr.

Wendy graduated from Garrard County High School. He entered active duty with the United States Navy May 12, 1969 and was honorably discharged July 17, 1970. Wendy worked alongside his father as a brick mason for many years. He also farmed in Valley View and retired from Okonite Cable.

Wendy was a lifetime member of the Peacemaker’s Motorcycle Club where he participated in many charitable events for the community. Wendy loved to travel but above all loved to spend time with his family and friends.

In addition to his mother Gladys, survivors include:
Wife: Tolene Hacker Pitts of Richmond, KY
Daughter: Geri Pitts Harrison and husband Mike of Irvine, KY
Granddaughter: Madison Lee Harrison and fiancé Kimball Foley of Richmond, KY
Grandson: Gregory Bryant Harrison of Irvine, KY
Sister: Sherry Jo Fowler and husband Wedge Fowler of Danville, KY
He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Joe E. Pitts and brother Don Pitts.

Visitation will be at Lakes Funeral Home, Berea, KY on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 from 11:00-1:00 with services at 1:00. Burial will be at Robinson Cemetery, Cartersville, KY.

Pallbearers will be Greg Harrison, Kimball Foley, Greg Pitts, Michael Pitts, Crosby Grant Harris, and Mark Fain. Honorary pallbearers are Dan Ward Ledford and Mike Azbill.

Throughout his life Wendy has made donations to various charities. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to one of the following:
The Robinson Cemetery, mailing address: 749 Narrow Gap Road, Paint Lick, KY 40461; Peacemaker’s Motorcycle Club Berea, 10861 Buckeye Road, Lancaster, KY, 40444. Please earmark for Thompson-Hood Veterans Home in honor of his service with check to Peacemakers MC/Mike Oakley; a charity of your choice.



Walter Douglas Hall

Walter Douglas Hall, age 69, of Patsy Road in Irvine, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at his home following a long illness. He was born June 26, 1953, in Dayton, Ohio and was the son of Delilah Smyth Hall and the late Lloyd Hall. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a retired Okonite employee and was a past president of the IBEW Local 2356.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Kay Shouse Hall.

Survivors in addition to his mother include:

2 daughters: Sonja “Joni” Hatton - Estill Co.
Melissa “Lisa” (Ryan) Raker -  Estill Co.

1 sister: Laura Minnix -  Estill Co.
1 brother: Scot Hall - Estill Co.
7 grandchildren: Jonah Carpenter, Dawson Carpenter, Becket Raker, Sophia Raker, Everleigh Raker, Carter Hatton and Colby Hatton

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Hall, and 2 brothers, Daniel and Steve Hall.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 12 PM at the Cobb Hill Crossroads Church with Bro. Jim Hall officiating.
The Warren F. Toler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.




 John William Thomas Sr. - March 13, 2023 - Strip Line Operator

John William Thomas Sr., 71 who is known to many as “Bill” and father of Rachelle (Alphonso) Nichols, Asherra Thomas, John Thomas, Jr., and Tremayne Thomas.


Passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023 from an extended illness at Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis, TN.

John was born on Monday, May 21, 1951 in Winchester, KY. from the union of the late Asher and Anna Bosley Thomas.

In addition to his children, John is survived by his ten; grandchildren, and two; great-grandchildren.

Also left to honor John’s memories is his brother, Rev. Michael (Deborah) Thomas.

Besides his parents, John is preceded in death by a grandson and a sister, Sharon Gipson.

Visitation 3:00 P.M.
Funeral 4:00 P.M.

Both services are Sunday March 19, 2023

Charlie Daniel Keaton - March 10, 2023 - Boiler Operator

Charles Daniel Keaton, 61, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023 at Baptist Health in Richmond, Kentucky. He was the husband of Elsie Tipton.Charles was born on September 6, 1961 in Osaka, Japan, and was the son of Robert Daniel Keaton and Yoshie Yarimizu Keaton. He was a Boiler operator at Okonite Cable and was of Baptist faith. He was also a Navy Veteran.


Survivors include:
his wife, Elsie Tipton;
two stepsons, Joshua Thomas and Jacob Thomas both of Washington State;
one brother, Jesse Keaton (Susan) of Richmond, KY;
one sister, Ellen Keaton of California;
two nieces, Kaitlin Keaton of Ohio and Lauren Ballard of California;
one nephew, Mark Ballard of California;
two step grandchildren, Jesi Leonard and Jasmine Lee and his beloved cat, Sabrina.

He is preceded in death by both of his parents.


A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
